The flat fried bread is a simple bread made with flour, water and salt.
But most of the time I use many other optional ingredients, such as herbs, curry, chili, etc. To fry it I usually use perfumed oils, especially the one in jars of dried tomatoes or feta cheese, or it could be as well olive oil or sesame oil.
Ingrédients :
-2 cups of flour ( 250g)
-1 tea spoon of making powder ( ½ bag)
-1 cup of warm water
-1 table spoon of salt
-Oil
-Herbs and spices
Preparation
For starting, you have to pour the flour and the baking powder into a large bowl, then you add the salt and after you mix well all the ingredients.
Then, for continuing, you have to pour the warm water and star. The dough must be soft and homogeneous. So if necessary you could add a little of water or flour. After, you just have to make little balls with the dough that you will flatten before frying it.
Here are different ideas of garnishing:
In France, there is Tartare cheese, which is a kind of Philadelphia cheese with garlic and herbs. If you can’t find an equivalent, you can just add these ingredients in the cheese and add salmon and chives.
You can also add the filling on top of the bread or even open the bread in half to put the filling inside.
Sometimes I put hummus or tzarziki inside, it’s just delicious.
If you make this bread in advance you can heat it up in the toaster or in the hot oven because it’s just so good to eat it when it’s just warm.
You can also make a pizza-like topping with arugula, mozzarella di bufala and chopped cherry tomatoes. Then add fresh basil and if you like spices, a pinch of espelette pepper to spice things up will be perfect.
