Split pea purée is a very healthy and diet recipe, easy to prepare and delicious to eat.
In a study published Tuesday, February 8 in the journal PLOS Medicine, a team from the University of Bergen (Norway) has established that an “optimal diet” rich in leguminous plants, whole grains, nuts, and fruits and vegetables, and low in meat, could increase life expectancy by more than ten years for a North American individual aged about twenty years (10.7 years for a woman, 13 years for a man) compared to an average Western diet, where the consumption of starchy foods, dairy products and meat is more important.
Here a very healthy and diet recipe based on the idea that we should eat more leguminous plant as the split pea.
Ingredients
250g of split pea (half of your packet)
1 onion
3 garlic gloves
1 broth cube
Preparation
You need first to “clean ” your split peas in water, after 30 min to 1 hour, you could drain them.
Cut roughly onion and garlic in order to add them in a sauce pan with water and the split pea. In order to replace the salt, I prefer adding a broth cube. It will give you more flavor.
Let cook it for 1 hour on low.
You will have a reduction of all the liquid in your sauce pan, but I advise you to remove manually with a ladle more add keep it aside if you need to add more broth if your purée is not enough soft.
I ate it with ham, it’s a very good combination that I really recommend you. If you would like I teach you in person or online this recipe, I will be pleased to do so:)
